This page is the transaction record for EXITS.co.uk: completed business sales, case studies and the experience behind them. If you are considering a sale rather than reviewing evidence, see how EXITS.co.uk sells a business.

Completed transactions

This archive records business sales completed through EXITS.co.uk. Each entry sets out the sector, the type of acquirer and the shape of the transaction, within the limits of what the parties have agreed can be disclosed. Where a client has asked for a transaction to remain entirely private, it is not listed here at all.

What these transactions show

Read together, the completed sales illustrate a consistent pattern. Most of the businesses were sold to acquirers who were approached directly rather than to buyers who responded to an advertisement. Most involved some element of deferred consideration or a handover period. And in almost every case the eventual acquirer was not the party the owner expected at the outset, which is the strongest practical argument for running a properly researched process rather than accepting the first approach.

How we report outcomes

We do not publish figures we cannot evidence, and we do not attribute transactions to EXITS.co.uk where our role was limited. Where a value, multiple or timescale is stated it has been confirmed by the parties. Where a detail is withheld it is because confidentiality obligations survive completion, not because the information is unfavourable.

Confidentiality after completion

Confidentiality obligations do not end at completion. Purchase agreements routinely restrict what either party may say about the transaction, and many owners have personal reasons for wanting the sale of their business to remain private. Nothing appears in this archive without the seller's agreement, and entries can be withdrawn at any time on request.

How to read a completed sale

Each entry names the sector, the year and the nature of the acquirer, and describes what made the transaction work. Where an owner has agreed to it, we also record what they would do differently. Those notes are frequently more useful to a prospective seller than the financial headline, because the obstacles that arise in a business sale are far more repetitive than the successes.

Completed transactions sit alongside our confidential business sales, off-market opportunities and business-wanted requirements. Reviewing all four gives a fuller picture of current market appetite than any single archive on its own.
